About the Hubbardston Cultural Council

The largest grassroots cultural funding network in the nation, the Mass Cultural Council's Local Cultural Council (LCC) Program enriches the cultural life of all cities and towns in Massachusetts. Led by municipally appointed volunteers, LCCs award more than $7 million every year, supporting 7,500 cultural programs that include everything from field trips to lectures, festivals, and dance performances.

The Hubbardston Cultural Council (HCC) is part of this network. Our mission is to promote excellence, access, and diversity in the arts, humanities, and interpretive sciences in order to enhance the quality of life in our community. We grant awards, typically between $500–$750, to support a broad range of projects and programs, such as operating support, ticket subsidies, field trips, artist residencies, public art, fellowships, community events/programs, site-specific projects, and other activities, based on local priorities. Both individuals and organizations are eligible for funding.

Anyone considering a community project that would fit the HCC’s criteria is encouraged to apply for upcoming grants.

The HCC prioritizes the following:

  • Applicants who have secured a local venue

  • Projects that serve all ages, with an emphasis on unique programming directed towards the interests of the community

  • Projects that celebrate Hubbardston’s history, agriculture, and rural character

In addition to the criteria found in the Local Cultural Council Program Guidelines, applications will be evaluated against the following:

  • How well the program meets our local priorities

  • Community support and involvement

  • Evidence of track record and dedication of the applicant

  • Evidence of being able to advertise / publicize their activity to the Hubbardston community

  • Ability to address the diverse cultural needs of a community’s underserved populations or support diverse forms of cultural activities

  • Financial need

  • Demonstrated planning
