Chief Perron Retires, SGT Couture Named Interim Chief

The Hubbardston Select Board on Monday accepted the retirement application of Police Chief Dennis Perron, ending more than 16 years of senior-level leadership and service to the Town of Hubbardston. His last day will be July 15, 2022.

"Chief Perron's more than 37 years in law enforcement and 16 years of service to the Town of Hubbardston is a remarkable accomplishment and testament to his commitment to public service," Town Administrator Ryan McLane said. "Chief Perron excelled despite budget challenges, recessions, community storms, changes in government structure, the Great Recession, and COVID-19. His experience and adaptability provided the town with much needed stability. But most impressive was his dedication to schools, safety, and building a sense of community."

The Board Monday appointed SGT Ryan Couture as the Interim Chief of Police for a six-month period effective July 16, 2022. SGT Couture has been a member of the Department for 21 years, serving in Dispatch, Patrolman and Detective roles. He has extensive leadership training to include graduating with the FBI’s Trilogy Award. During the interim period, SGT Couture will lead the department and evaluate members for their ability to serve in future leadership positions. The Select Board stated on Monday that they will organize a formal search for the next Hubbardston permanent Chief of Police in the coming months.

"SGT Couture has my full confidence having demonstrated leadership and community service during is more than eight years as a Hubbardston Police Sergeant,” McLane said. “SGT Couture has already begun working on goals for improving the department and ways to further connect with the community.”
