Records Request Guidelines

Guidelines to assist persons seeking access to public records in the custody of the Town of Hubbardston
The Massachusetts Public Records Law (MGL Chapter 66 & Chapter 4, Section 7(26)) provides that every person has a right to access public information.

The law, effective January 1, 2017, creates a new position called the Records Access Officer (RAO), a governmental officer or employee within the municipality who is designated to perform duties described in the regulations including:

  • coordinating a response to public records requests
  • assisting individuals seeking public records in identifying the records requested,
  • preparing guidelines that enable requestors to make informed requests.
The Town of Hubbardston has appointed four RAO's with the Town Clerk as the Lead RAO.  The Police Department, Fire Department and DPW each have their own RAO for records held in those departments.  Contact the appropriate RAO when requesting records.
