Hubbardston DPW Releases Winter Operations Plan 2023-2024

DPW WOP

The Hubbardston Department of Public Works has released its Winter Operations Plan for the upcoming 2023-2024 winter season. This plan provides important details on how the DPW will prioritize snow and ice operations on the town's 87 miles of roads, sidewalks, parking lots, and school areas between November 15 and April 15.

The plan outlines the equipment, materials, weather monitoring resources, and personnel procedures that allow DPW crews to keep main roads cleared and passable as a priority during and after winter storms. It also covers our communications protocols with emergency responders, school officials, and residents before, during and after significant weather events.

Some key points for residents:

  • We prioritize snow clearing on main roads and high-traffic routes first after storms, followed by residential side streets and lower traffic areas as resources allow
  • On-street parking bans facilitate plowing when declared - vehicles may be towed if obstructing operations
  • Residents should clear snow away from fire hydrants on their property
  • The plan strictly prohibits pushing snow into public roadways as it creates hazards

The full Winter Operations Plan document is available on the DPW page of the town website at https://www.hubbardstonma.us/sites/g/files/vyhlif3276/f/uploads/winter_o.... Hard copies can also be reviewed at Town Hall. Questions can be directed to my office at 978-928-1408.

The Select Board and Town Administrator thank the dedicated DPW crews in advance for their hard work and long hours keeping our roads safe this winter. We appreciate the community's support and cooperation as we aim to provide efficient, cost-effective winter operations.
