Hubbardston, MA - On October 1, 2023, the Hubbardston Lions Club held a dedication event attended by approximately 100 members and guests to donate a permanent pavilion to the Town of Hubbardston at the Curtis Recreational Fields. This substantial community project was spearheaded by project chair Jason Guertin and Jason Gobar, with assistance from over 40 additional club and community members who volunteered their time and skills.

The construction of the pavilion was primarily funded through donations from local businesses and individuals, along with a grant from the Town of Hubbardston's American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA). Lions Club members worked diligently throughout the spring and summer to bring this ambitious project to fruition, with additional support from local construction and timber companies.

The ceremonial "key to the pavilion" was presented by Lions Club President Kellianne Iacaboni and accepted by Select Board Members Katie Young and Kris Pareago, as the dedication event marked the official donation of the pavilion to the Town of Hubbardston. Attendees included State Representative Donald Berthiaume, Town Administrator Nathan Boudreau, and former State Senator Steve Brewer.

"It was an honor to lead this effort to give back to the community that has given so much to us," said Jason Guertin, project chair. "Our members came together to turn this vision into a reality for Hubbardston."

The new pavilion will serve as a central gathering place and shelter at the recreational fields for community events, athletic games, and everyday use by residents. It will be a focal point and valued addition to the fields for decades to come. The donation builds upon the Lions Club’s legacy of service, including their previous donation of the bandstand at the recreational fields.

Members of the Hubbardston Select Board thanked the Lions Club and presented a certificate of appreciation commemorating the impactful donation. The Lions Club also presented plaques to Guertin and Gobar in recognition of their pivotal role spearheading the pavilion project.

“We were thrilled to commemorate this amazing donation at the dedication event,” said Kellianne Iacaboni, Hubbardston Lions Club President. “It was rewarding to see our members’ hard work come to fruition as we officially handed over this substantial pavilion for all to enjoy for years to come."
